Will Stevia somewhere down the line become another GMO product just to be able to produce more ton per acre - who knows?
I caught an ad on TV the other day for the new sweetener "Sun Crystals", a combination of sugar and Stevia made by McNeil Nutritionals, LLC, who by the way is the maker of Splenda. Will this become just another modified sugar substitute, now including just another modified natural sweetener, such as sucralose? When will all of this food modification end, and when can we get back to the basics of healthy living without worrying that we are eating will end up eating us in later years in the form of cancers and other diseases that cause a wasting away of our bodies?
This new sweetener is a combination of Stevia and cane sugar but being made by the company that produces a "chemical" sweetener Splenda. I wonder what its true make up really is. I definitely will not use it, just because of its association with McNeil and Splenda. This new product was supposedly released to retail shelves last month September, 2009. NPI Center
Another little tidbit, "in April 2009, the International Trade Commission closed a patent infringement case that will permit Chinese manufacturers to produce 'copycat' versions of Splenda products which will be sold under different brand names." Wow, now what will they call that? This quote from: Splenda, from Wikipedia
With the Chinese getting into the artificial sweetener products, just remember what they were doing to our pet foods at the beginning of the year.
