Multi-vitamin Study

On September 9, 2011, Stephen Daniels published a very informative article, Multi-nutrient supplement shows anti-inflammatory benefits. A study done on both men and women shows that supplements containing the B-vitamins, amino acids, and botanical extracts, reduced inflammation. This conclusion isn't rocket science to those who already know the benefits of natural supplements, but for the powers that be who are challenging the use of natural supplements, studies like this serve to confirm what we already know.

Women in the study were observed to have improvements in both anxiety and balance, and the men in the study experienced less pain, specifically joint pain, and encountered more strength and physical endurance.

Both the men and women in the study experienced an improvement in their endurance.

"It therefore appears that a multi-nutrient supplement is beneficial to recovery, inflammatory status, and performance of active men and women," wrote the researchers.

The supplement used in the study contained:

  • B5 (20 mg)
  • B6 (6 mg)
  • Folic acid (0.40 mg)
  • B12 (0.25 mg))
  • Taurine (500 mg)
  • L-leucine (2,000 mg)
  • Isoleucine (500 mg)
  • Valine (500 mg)
  • Cat's claw (100 mg)
  • Quercetin (100 mg)
  • Green tea (50 mg)
  • Biovin full spectrum whole grape extract (25 mg)

It's always best to never "guess" what supplements you do or do not need, so I recommend having hair a hair analysis before adding supplements to your daily protocol. The hair analysis is a tool to learn exactly what essential nutrients you may be high or low in. As a general rule, however, for the average consumer with no special health issues, a healthy and natural way to secure that your body is receiving all the natural nutrients it needs is to supplement with a whole-foods multi-vitamin and trace mineral, a B-100 Complex, vitamin C from fruit sources to bowel tolerance, and a complex of all the amino acids in a tablet form or from a protein powder at least four days a week.

Hat's Off to these researchers!
