Stevia, here we go again with a connection to Cargill. I personally am apprehensive to use anything that this large conglomerate company is involved with, especially for human consumption, unless it goes into the car. They now are in business with the production of stevia and "producing" for Pepsi and Coca Cola companies as a sweetener. A company from Malaysia (PureCircle) has an agreement with Cargill to supply "Rebaudioside-A" (Reb-A), a Stevia extract. It seems now that Stevia is no longer a South American plant but is grown on large plantations in Malaysia and China. I am somewhat knowledgeable of the production of sugar but for Stevia none what-so-ever. With Cargill getting into the production "loop" of anything, I will wonder about the purity/natural content of the product. I know there are standards that have to be met, but as I said, I am just apprehensive to try their products.
Will Stevia somewhere down the line become another GMO product just to be able to produce more ton-per-acre, who knows?
I caught an ad on TV the other day but did not register the name for my research, but it was a combination of sugar and stevia. Will this become just another modified sugar substitute, now including another modified natural sweetener, such as sucralose? When will all of this food modification end so we can get back to the basics of healthy living without worrying that what we are eating ends up eating us in later years in the form of cancers and other diseases that cause a wasting away of our bodies?
