Product Did You Knows From Our Readers
- Colgate® toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.
- Using an inhaler, or simply fighting a chronic stuffy nose? Try chewing on a couple of Altoids® peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose. (Read the labels, though, as some forms contain chemical sugar substitutes.)
- Achy muscles? Mix 1 tablespoon horseradish in 1 cup olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply as a massage oil.
- Sore throat? Mix 1/4 cup vinegar with 1/4 cup honey. Swallow 1 tablespoon 6 times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.
- Alka-Seltzer® has been known to rid urinary tract infections. Dissolve 2 tablets in a glass of water and drink at the onset of symptoms. Note: Alka-Seltzer Plus Cold Medicine® is not the same thing, and contains aspirin, which can cause stomach bleeding if you have ulcers. Aspirin also robs the body of magnesium.
- Honey is a remedy for skin blemishes. Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and cover with a Band-Aid®. The honey kills bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing.
- Listerine® for toenail fungus. Soak your toes in Listerine mouthwash.
- Easy eyeglass protection. To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening.
- Coca-Cola® cure for rust. Saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. Also works on car battery terminals.
- Spray Formula 409® on bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets. Insects drop to the ground instantly.
- Splinter remover. Pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-All® over a splinter and let dry. Peel off the dried glue, and the splinter will stick to the glue.
- Hunt's Tomato Paste® for boils. Cover the boil with tomato paste. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.
- To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine® mouthwash.
- White vinegar to heal bruises. Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply to a bruise for at least 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds the healing process.
- Kill fleas with Dawn® dish washing liquid. Add a few drops to your dog's bath, and shampoo thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations.
- Eliminate ear mites with a few drops of liquid corn oil. Massage into your animal's ear, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.
- Quaker Oats® for pain relief. Mix 2 cups oats and 1 cup water, and warm for 1 minute. Cool slightly, and rub onto your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.
