MSG - Hidden Toxin

Most consumers are aware that MSG (monosodium glutamate) is a toxic food additive hiding in processed foods. Amazingly, it is still around despite all the negative publicity.

MSG may be in your food without being labeled monosodium glutamate. Most people know they have eaten something with added MSG because they immediately react with shortness of breath, coughing, rapid heart beat and headache. Wow! Add a diet cola with aspartame and call in sick to work!

Many manufactured food products, such as spices and broths, include MSG under shadowy names such as "natural flavors." However, no truly natural foods such as raw fruits and vegetables, organic cereals, or organic dairy, will contain MSG. Monosodium glutamate is a manmade creation, and "old-school" in my opinion. Let's move off the old and onto the new - natural products that REALLY ARE natural.

The label on many products may say "No MSG" when, in fact, it is present. Here's a list of some of the hidden labels for MSG: natural flavors/ing, hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), hydrolyzed milk protein, autolyzed yeast, natural
beef flavoring, kombu extract, bouillon, natural pork flavoring, RL-50, broth, natural seasonings, textured protein, calcium caseinate, gourmet powder, seasonings, sodium caseinate, glutavene, subu, flavorings,glutacyl, spices, malt extract, hydrolyzed oat flour, tamari, malt flavoring, hydrolyzed plant protein.

After consuming many of these hidden sources of MSG, symptoms can appear immediately or be delayed as much as 72 hours, possibly causing chronic problems if consumed regularly.

The best way to avoid MSG is to make your meals from scratch when possible, but always read your labels.
