-- Both N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide and N,N-diemethylbenzamide are chemical names for DEET; the label may or may not have the word "DEET" on it.
-- Mosquitoes are principally nectar feeders with only the females requiring a meal of blood. Only the female mosquito can bite.
-- Throughout most of the world, mosquitoes are a major public health problem; estimated to transmit disease to more than 700 million people annually, and responsible for the deaths of approximately 1 in 17 people currently alive.
-- In New Zealand, the UK, Scandinavia, the United States and other temperate countries, mosquito bites are mostly considered a nuisance.
-- Fleas account for more than half of all dermatological conditions requiring veterinary assistance, and even a single flea bite to a hypersensitive animal or person may cause intense itching and irritation.
-- Adult fleas (the biting stage seen by pet owners) spend most of their time on the animal, not in the carpet.
-- Some fleas can lay 500 eggs over a period of several months by laying batches of three to eighteen eggs at a time.
-- The female flea lays her tiny, white eggs loosely on the hairs, in the feathers, or in the habitat of the host. The eggs readily fall off the host onto the ground, floors, bedding, or furniture.
Fleas can jump over 6 feet, and they enter the house by any carrier available: pets and humans.
