Q and A with Dr. Hull

Subject: Birth control shot

Q: I have been on the depo provera birth control shot for 2 1/2 years. 9 months ago I started developing extreme fatigue and muscular pains in my hips and legs. I also have been very weak, which is unlike me, since I am very active and play competitive sports. I saw my MD, who referred me to an orthopedic specialist, who told me to continue seeing my chiropractor and massage therapist. I did my own research and at first feared I may have Fibromyalgia, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or polymyositis. I then was checked by a rheumatologist who ruled out those autoimmune disorders. In the meanwhile, I started taking Seasilver (a liquid vitamin/mineral supplement), I stopped ALL aspartame intake, went on a juice fast, and started taking MSN/Glucosamine/Chondroitin. I also forced myself to continue working out at least 3 times a week.

My question is - could the depo shot be causing my problems? If so, is it possible to not have had these symptoms until I was on the depo for over 1 1/2 years?

A: Yes, it takes time for toxins to accumulate in the tissues of the body. (Some poisons are acute, and some chronic.) Accumulation then becomes symptomatic. Over time, things get worse. Plus, you had other toxins to contribute to the toxic brew - such as aspartame - all accumulating.

Q: Also, about 18 months ago I started gaining weight. I am 5'8" and weighed 130 in May 2002. Now I am at 155. If anything, I have started eating healthier and have been exercising MORE. I am 28 years old and have never had a weight problem before in my life. I never had to worry about dieting.

A: The birth control affects your hormones (of course), which affects your pituitary and pineal glands, which affect the thyroid, which affects weight gain - when you haven't changed a thing. It's a circle of frustration for women. Hormones and aspartame affect all these centers, too.

Q: I went to my OB/GYN last week and told her I would get off my shot, but she said it wouldn't be fully out of my system for 12-18 MONTHS. And she said a detox would not work.

A: Detox will work. Especially if you add supplements to restore any thyroid function, and niacin to clean the blood of excess hormones. Stay off all aspartame and other food chemicals, as that will slow the process.

Q: Any suggestions? I am in pain! (3 months ago I switched getting the shot in my hips to getting it in my shoulders and I now have a lot of shoulder pain as well). My rheumatologist told me that it was tendonitis, but I don't think so. (No repetitive motion, and the drug Bextra doesn't seem to be helping) Also, my muscle enzymes (CPK) were a little high. Every other test I had done was within normal range.

A: I am so sorry for what this has caused, but I think it is the shot kicking off an already chemical load within your body. I would detox ASAP, restore depleted nutrients, and keep up the exercising and this WILL make a difference. Those darn doctors sometimes......

I wish you all the best, and fast!!

Subject: Hair loss

Q: Hi, I am loosing my hair at a very early age, and I was hoping you could help. Maybe by getting a hair analysis it can identify why I am losing hair. Please contact me back. Thank You

A: If hair loss isn't genetic and you're not destined to look like your balding 'Uncle Joe', then a nutrient imbalance is pending, no doubt. Eighteen years old is too young for hair loss. How has the diet been so far? I tactfully ask this question - but any drug use and/or pot? There is a connection, if applicable.

I would surmise a hair test will tell us a lot and it would be worth doing before more time, and hair, slips by. Let me know what you elect to do, but you are on the right track. Nutrition is the only way to repair this long-term - not the drugs advertised. Those wind up with their own health demons in the long run.

Subject: Chlorine

Q: I just received your book and I have not put it down. I am curious about water intake. I have read that people with autoimmune diseases should try to remove chlorine from the water. I have only found a system that will get rid of the odor and taste of chlorine but not chlorine itself. What is your opinion of the reverse osmosis systems? I have been told that I have the early signs of MS. This is after the Dr. couldn't figure out what was wrong with me and wanted me to take muscle relaxers and all sorts of things. There has been no nerve damage at this time so I am confident that I can beat this. If you recall, I emailed you a few weeks ago concerning your book. Also, if I am already taking a multi vitamin with vitamin C and all of the B- vitamins, do I take more on the side?

A: I am glad you are enjoying the read and benefiting from the book. That is my wish for everyone. Chlorine is a carcinogen, and avoid it and all chemicals the best you can. It's hard to do in today's polluted society.

I think the detox will address any toxin you have been exposed to, but some are easier to remove than others, so you might want to continue the detox program as long as you have the symptoms. I think you can reverse any MS symptoms, as you are catching the problem in the nick of time. If you identify the cause of the MS symptoms and remove them, then your body should heal. Never give up hope and belief.

If you are already on some of the critical vitamins the body needs to detox, then you do not to need to increase the amount. Those should be fine, but the amount your body needs during stress could require larger doses than in a multi-vitamin. Also, make sure to eat the foods rich in vitamins, and your body will benefit.

Wishing you all the best.

Subject: rheumatoid arthritis

Q: I have rheumatoid arthritis; greatly effecting my ankles, knees and wrists. I am on prednizone and vioxx and am trying to detox to purge this dis-ease. Do you know of anyone who has been successful in detoxing and reversing the RA symptoms? I am determined to erase the symptoms rather than mask them. Thank you for any input you may offer.

A: The medications can create problems in themselves, so try not to stay on them for too long a period at a time, even though I know that's hard to avoid when you swell and hurt. I am glad you are aware that they only mask the issue, and do not help to cure it.

I admire your desire to bring alternative medicine into the picture, as it is advisable to seek other options.

I would suggest detoxing and see what's going on inside of you. Let me suggest this:

1) It would be prudent to do a hair analysis so to see what toxins are at the root of this.

2) I would follow the detox protocol, and the detox eBook will be helpful as a reference for you.

3) Test your pH, as I would assume you are highly acidic, which doesn't help matters (also in the eBook). Then, you can target the specific foods that will balance your body pH.

This is an education and a healing journey, but one that will benefit you in the long-run. I also suggest a body enzyme called Wobenzyme-N. It has great results in taking down the swelling and the pain. I have wonderful case histories of how this helps. Arthritis creates toxins which need to be eliminated from the body. If your pH is too acidic along with improper elimination, this aggravates RA symptoms.

Wishing you well.

Subject: Where do I test for aspartame poisoning?

Q: Where can I get a hair test done? How much does it cost? This illness has cost me a fortune already. I sure would like to show the Drs. the test. I have mentioned it and the only one that was interested in it was a medical Dr at a chiropractic office. He is a chemist and he agreed my illness was due to aspartame. Could you let me know where this test can be performed? I certainly will get your book. Thank you for that information.

A: Thanks for writing. With time and some nutritional alternatives, you may be able to defeat this yourself. It's worth a try as long as your health is not in danger.

I think a hair analysis would be helpful, as the aspartame may have depleted some critical health nutrients that may simply need replacing through supplements. We don't want to guess at what those are, and the hair analysis shows exactly what's happened inside your body. I charge $180 for the lab's analysis and for my interpretation of the results and nutritional recommendation report.

If you can get a copy of SWEET POISON from your local library or off Amazon, I think you will get many answers when you read the book. You will feel as if you are reading about yourself, and it will help you understand why your health issues are happening to you. I had similar health symptoms that have since gone away. Aspartame is a very real issue, even though the medical community plays it down.

Plus, make sure you're not into any hidden aspartame, so read ALL your labels.

Keep searching for answers - I found them. You can, too.

Let me know if I can do anything to help in your quest for health.
