ACTONEL®
How Supplied: Tablet: 5 mg, 30 mg, 35 mg, 75 mg.
Indications: Prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women; increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis.
Contraindications: Hypocalcemia; inability to stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes.
Warnings/Precautions: May cause upper GI disorders (dysphagia, esophagitis, esophagitis, esophageal or gastric ulcer). And occasionally incapacitating bone, joint, and/or muscle pain, has been reported. Give supplemental calcium and vitamin D if dietary intake is inadequate. Avoid with severe renal impairment. Osteonecrosis, primarily in the jaw, has been reported. Severe and occasionally incapacitating bone, joint, and/or muscle pain, have been reported.
Adverse Reactions: Asthenia, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, constipation, peripheral edema, arthalgia, leg cramps, headache, dizziness, sinusitis, rash, tinnitus.
BONIVA®
How Supplied: Tablet: 2.5 mg, 150 mg.
Indications: Prevention and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Contraindications: Hypocalcemia; inability to stand or sit upright for at least 60 minutes.
Warnings/Precautions: May cause upper GI disorders (dysphagia, esophagitis, esophagitis, esophageal or gastric ulcer. Not recommended in severe renal impairment. Reports of osteonecrosis, primarily in the jaw, have been reported.
Adverse Reactions: Dyspepsia, nausea, back pain, arthalgia, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, influenza, headache, bronchitis.
