Subject: What is inulin?

Q: I have a question for you. I have a new stevia product, and realized that it has inulin fiber. What this is and is it safe?

A: Inulin is a chemical believed to improve blood lipid levels and is currently being studied as a pre-cancer nutrient. Recent animal research shows that inulin prevents adverse precancerous changes in the colon. Inulin is recommended for diabetics, and because it is not absorbed into the bloodstream, it does not affect blood sugar levels. Inulin has a mildly sweet taste, and is filling like starchy foods. It is a preferred food for the lactobacilli in the intestine and can improve the balance of friendly bacteria in the bowel.

Inulin is found in two sweeteners not yet on the American market - Tastes Like Sugar(r) from Empirical Labs and Yacón, another South American sweetener from Peru. Yacon can be eaten raw, just like a fruit, and once the roots
have been dried in the sun, they become sweeter. Expect these new sweeteners sometime in the near future.

Subject: B-complex

Q: I take a B-complex supplement. Is that cool to be taking it along with the niacin? I would believe that it is, but just checking.

A: Oh, yes. I am a firm believer in having a B-50 or B-100 complex on hand four to five times a week. The B vitamins are critical to balance health, especially for hormone health, heart health, and digestion. B-complex has some niacin in it, but a low grade of extra niacin to keep toxins in check is also very, very good for the blood. Keep your niacin intake low, however, if you are using blood thinners or heart medications.

Subject: Aspartame and diabetes

Q: My husband needs to know if his pains down his arms, chest and shortness of breath could be attributed to Aspartame Poisoning? He had an echocardiogram and CAT scan with normal findings...How can a regular doctor test for this? He stopped drinking Diet Coke yesterday and no reoccurrence of his symptoms. Please know that he also is diabetic and disabled. Please furnish as much info as you can to us.

A: Thank you writing. Whenever health symptoms are strong enough to go to a doctor, yet nothing shows up on traditional tests, it is assuredly a reaction to environmental or food chemicals. You must begin to scrutinize all the chemicals he has been exposed to. If he uses aspartame, I would start there. I would expect it is worsening, if not at the bottom of the problem.

Once intake of the neurotoxin is removed, the symptoms should decrease. He is already in a weaker health state because of his diabetes, so I encourage NO aspartame in foods, drinks, powered form, etc. Read all your food labels, too, as it is hidden in foods NOT sugar-free.

Digestive enzymes and good vitamins will help restore depleted nutrients. Fats and multiple carbs are just as dangerous for him as white sugar.

Hope this helps. Stay away from aspartame and sucralose (which is stressful on the kidneys) and see if his symptoms disappear.

Subject: Detox from aspartame

Q: I have just found out about aspartame effects, and am working on detoxing, I am trying to find a list of effects or complications when detoxing from aspartame. I have been trying for 3 days now, and I know that it can take up to 60 days to clean it all out of my system.

Is there anything I need to know about, vitamins, herbs, etc. that will help.

A: Glad to hear you are off aspartame. It is nasty stuff when you know the details. Go to the detox section of my web site www.detoxprogram.net, where I have listed all the vitamins that remove toxins from your body tissues and bloodstream.

If you have specific questions, let me know. The toxins can be out of your body in one month to six weeks.

Good luck and good health.

Subject: Aspartame and lesions

Q: I had been using Aspartame by drinking diet drinks and chewing the sugar-free gums. All I had as a possible health problem was arm and neck pain and I complained enough to the doctor who in turn sent me to have an MRI of the brain. The MRI came back very abnormal and then I had a Spinal Tap where some of the fluids were elevated to show possible MS. The early stages they say. May I ask, does the Aspartame cause the lesions on the brain? PLEASE RESPOND???? I am desperate to get a second opinion and learn that I may not have this disease!!

A: Yes, aspartame causes lesions in the brain and nerve damage. I have written about the research in Sweet Poison and think you will benefit from reading the book. It will answer so many of your questions. You can find it at your library or on Amazon.

I would suspect aspartame use has something to do with this. Let me know if you can get a copy of the book, and we'll take it from there...

Wishing you well.
